Ramadhan Reminder Day 15 (1447H/2026)

As human beings we are all prone to sin, Shaytaan and our nafs overcome us and we end up committing a sin. We learn from the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad  that when we end up commiting a sin we should conceal it and not disclose it to anyone.

The Prophet Muhammad  said “Avoid these filthy practices which Allah, the Almighty has prohibited. He who commits any of these, should conceal with Allah’s Most High Veil (i.e. should not speak about it), and should turn to Allah, the Most High in repentance…”.

Speaking and disclosing one’s sins is not permissible in Islam unless there is a genuine reason.
When a person discloses his sins to others, it shows that he regards the disobedience of Allah Ta’ala as insignificant.

Abu Hurayra Radiyallahu anha narrates that he heard Allah’s Messenger  saying. ” An example of such disclosure is that a person commits a sin at night and though Allah screens it from the public, then he comes in the morning, and says, ‘O so-and-so, I did such-and-such (evil) deed yesterday,’ though he spent his night screened by his Lord (none knowing about his sin) and in the morning he removes Allah’s screen from himself.”

Ibn al-Qayyim Rahimahullah said: The one who commits sin in secret is doing something less serious than one who commits sin openly and broadcasts it. The one who keeps quiet about it commits a less serious sin than one who tells people about it. Such a one is far removed from the forgiveness of Allah, as the Prophet   said: “All of my ummah may be forgiven except those who commit sin openly…”.

Among the negative consequences of social media is its role in encouraging individuals to publicise their sins, sometimes even boasting about them. One of the wisdom behind concealing one’s sins is safeguarding society from the spread of immorality. Yet when we observe what is commonly shared online, it becomes evident that immorality has not merely entered society; it has, in many cases, become normalised.

May Allah protect us and forgive all of our sins.
