The Holy Qur’an is the word of Allah Ta‘ala, and it is necessary to recite it with Tajweed.
Tajweed is the set of rules that ensures the Qur’an is recited with proper pronunciation, giving each letter its due articulation point (Makhraj) and characteristics (Sifaat).
Tajweed ensures that the reciter reads the Qur’an in the manner in which it was revealed and safeguards the reciter from reciting it in a way that would distort the meaning of the Qur’an.
Practising Tajweed improves one’s recitation and increases the desire to recite the Qur’an more often.
Our prophet Muhammad ﷺ has highlighted the significance of Tajweed in the following hadith: “He who does not recite the Qur’an in a pleasant tone is not of us.”
He has also instructed us to recite it in a beautiful voice: “Beautify the Qur’an with your voices.”
Once Tajweed is incorporated into our recitation, it helps beautify the way we read the Qur’an. We should also try to recite the Qur’an in a voice that is pleasant and appealing.
To improve our recitation, we should approach local Ulama and enrol in Tajweed classes so that we can properly learn and apply the rules of Tajweed.
