Ramadhan Reminder Day 14 (1447H/2026)

The Masaajid hold a special status in Islam.

Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said in a hadith:

“The most beloved places to Allah on earth are the mosques.”

Naturally, if these are the most beloved places in the sight of Allah Ta‘ala,

then the people who frequent them and take care of them will also be among His beloved servants.

The Masjid should be more beloved to us than our own homes, and we should take care of it more than our own homes.

The Masaajid are a trust given to us by Allah Ta‘ala. The Muslim community is responsible for its upkeep and proper maintenance.

Taking care of the Masaajid is a praiseworthy act. This blessed act should not be viewed with disdain. Rather, those who maintain the Masjid and volunteer their time to ensure its smooth functioning deserve respect and appreciation.

If we can give any time to our local Masaajid, we should do so. We should get in touch with the Imam/committee of the Masjid and find out if we can be of any service to them.

By caring for and looking after the Masaajid, we will be rewarded for carrying out the command of Nabi ﷺ.

‘A’isha Radiyallahu anha narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to build mosques in different localities and that they should be kept clean and perfumed.

The following hadith shows the status of one who served the Masjid:

Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu anhu narrated regarding the story of the black woman who used to clean the mosque. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked about her, and he was told that she had died. He said to them, “Why didn’t you inform me of her death?” It seems that they regarded her as an insignificant person. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Show me her grave.” They showed him her grave, and he offered the funeral prayer for her.

The Prophet ﷺ honored her service by praying over her grave, teaching the Ummah the immense virtue of such individuals.
